Navigating Clinical Risk & Liability in the Telehealth Environment

This course will increase participants’ understanding of various risk factors for working with adults in the telehealth environment and empower them to provide effective, compliant care.

Participants will be able to describe the importance of conducting accurate and thorough clinical assessments.

Participants will be able to explain how properly determining and sufficiently justifying clinical diagnoses mitigates risk of clinician liability.

Participants will be able to appraise the suitability of telehealth mental health care for individuals and create safety plans appropriate for use in the telehealth environment.

Participants will be able to distinguish the appropriate level of care for clients as based on their risk-level and symptomatology.

About the Instructors

Vivan Easton Chung, LMFT

Vivian Chung Easton, MA, LMFT, CHC has a B.A. in Psychology from UCLA and a M.A. in Marriage and Family Therapy from USC. Vivian has practiced in the behavioral health field for over 12 years and has experience providing therapy to a wide range of clients, from utilizing play and art therapy with children, to serving intensive, homebound elderly clients.

Vivian has provided services in the telehealth environment, in community mental health as well as in private practice. In the most recent years, Vivian has focused on providing trainings in an online and in person environment on documentation standards in behavioral health, risk mitigation, and clinical quality improvement.

Carolyn Polakowski, LPC

Carolyn Polakowski, MS, LPC is a licensed counselor in who provides telehealth mental
health services to clients in 11 different states, as well holding a private practice in Colorado. Carolyn started out as a high school English teacher and transitioned into the mental health field in 2011, graduating with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2014 from Capella University. Since then she has worked with high acuity clients providing individual, family, and crisis counseling within hospitals, emergency rooms, community agencies, and residential treatment facilities.
