About Us
WHY
There are more than 500 million people suffering from depression and anxiety around the world and depression is the leading cause for disability (WHO 2016).
There is a dire need for accessible and scalable solutions to treat mental health conditions. This is where digital therapeutics and Meru Health comes in!
WHAT
Meru treatment is delivered via a mobile app and is supported by remote clinicians. The treatment consists of:
A treatment program that adapts to individual needs.
Our 12-week treatment program combines psychological treatment modules and practices. We individualize the program based on patient’s personal information and needs.
Daily support from licensed therapists
Participants get proactive support on a daily basis (via in-app chat).
Anonymous peer support
It’s beneficial to recognize that you are not alone with your challenges and learning how others overcome them.

JavaScript Backend Engineer / Helsinki, Finland
You will be part of Meru Health’s smart and skilled product team. You will be managing our various systems and making sure they are secure and running smoothly. You will also be responding to our backend needs, such as email automation, analytics data collection, new data models and API’s.
As we are treating real patients with mental health condition, we are handling highly sensitive data. Security of this data is of upmost importance to us. You will play a key role in developing and implementing security practices at Meru Health, including preparing for audits, doing penetration testing, evaluating vulnerabilities, updating systems etc.

Responsibilities
Development of different backend functionality
Keeping Meru Health’s systems up and running
Developing and implementing security practices and processes at Meru Health
Doing security assessments and improving security of the Meru Health platform
Documenting Meru Health’s systems, data flows, and interfaces
Monitoring systems for issues and abnormalities
Making technology choices and improving our development practices to make development more fun and helping us write better quality code
Skills & Qualities
Technologies: Node.js, PostgreSQL, Cloud Functions, plus if experience with Firebase and Kubernates
Deep understanding of the inner workings of the web and common development patterns
Good understanding of security best practices for managing web services and knowledge of common security threats
Experience with running web servers and databases in production
Experience with cloud platforms, such as AWS (S3, SNS, RDS, KMS…) or Google Cloud (BigQuery, Firebase…)
Ability to own complex development projects, from gathering requirements, to development, to collecting feedback and improving
Ability to write clear and maintainable code
Drive to understand things on a deeper level, always seeking for the root cause of the problem or understanding the underlying need in any proposed solution
Being accustomed to writing unit and integration tests, but also being comfortable at balancing between speed and test coverage
Experience
5+ years of professional software development experience
Working in a startup or similar highly demanding environment
